Have you ever watched musicians and thought, “Wow, they’re so lucky to be able to do that!”  Lots of people tell me that they feel that way, and it puzzles me.  There’s no reason that everyone shouldn’t be able to play some musical instrument.  My favorite is the guitar because it’s so portable and so versatile.  Plus, I like to sing, and the guitar accompanies vocals well.  When I was younger, being able to play the guitar and sing got me a lot of attention — and action — from the ladies.  Now I like to make kids smile and giggle.  It happens when you grow up.

Anyway, if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar, I want to encourage you to do it.  There is no magic involved with playing, though there is some magic involved with performing.  Some people have more charisma than others, but anybody can play.  No guitarist was ever born with a guitar in their hands, and no guitarist ever learned to play without hundreds of hours of practice.

That’s the key, you see:  Practice.  If you do it, you will learn.  If you do not, you will not learn.  There are some learning aids to help you along, but it really boils down to practice at the end of the day.  Once you learn the basics, it’s all about execution.

That is so true in so many aspects of life!  Whatever you want to do, whether it’s playing the guitar or traveling the world (and a guitar can help you do that, too), just start doing it until you can do it effortlessly!
